Ghana re-schedules Zone 3 Boxing tourney![]() Secretary General of the Nigeria Amateur Boxing Association (NABA) Francis Gbiri told nigeriasport.com in Lagos that a message was sent to the association informing them on the shift in date. "I was surprise when l heard about the change because we’ve started our preparation early enough. But l thank God that they informed us early enough on the new development." Gbiri told nigeriasports.com. "The Zone Three Championship will now take place from 9 to 15 April 2005 in Accra, Ghana and Nigeria’s representative would be leaving for the event on the 7th of April, and participate in weighing of the boxers on the 8th." The NABA scribe said that the championship is meant to select boxers that would represent Nigeria and other African Countries at the World Championship and the Commonwealth Games in 2006. Eleven boxers would represent Nigeria at the competition in several categories including; light fly Weight(48kg), Fly Weight(51kg), Bantam Weight(54kg), Feather Weight(57kg),Light Weight(60kg), Light Weather Weight(64kg), Weather Weight(69kg) Middle Weight(75kg), Light heavy Weight(81kg), Heavy Weight(90kg), and Super Heavy Weight(+91kg). "I’m optimistic that we would qualify for the International boxing Association(IBA) championship, the Commonwealth Games and any other international Competition from the Zone," Gbiri nigeriasport.com. He added that, "I must tell you, all the boxers that would participate in the week-long competition are already in camp." "The Zone three championship is also a talent hunt programme as well as exposing our boxers to international competition and this competition would be used to rate boxers on the international scene.
