Rowe park to host Lagos teams– Ogunade

Basking in the euphoria of the success that trailed the staging of the just concluded Lagos State Basketball Association, “LSBBA Easter Basketball Jam” played at the sports hall of the Rowe Park Sports Center, Yaba, Lagos the association is set to continue to put to good use the venue for the home games of the five Atlantic Conference teams based in the state.

According to the LSBBA chairman, Babs Ogunade said the association has concluded arrangement in conjunction with the Sports Council to refurbish the Sports Hall ahead the first jump ball of the 2004/2005 premier league being sponsored by telecommunications giant, V-Mobile.

“With the absence of the sports hall of the national stadium, Lagos, which is still under going repair, the LSBBA in conjunction with the Agboola Pinheiro led Sports Council have resolved to carry out repairs of the Rowe Park hall which to me will be the best bet for the five Lagos-based clubs for their home games.

I understand that the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF is thinking of securing the sports hall of the University of Lagos sports complex for the teams, while I don’t have roblem with such arrangement we should take note of the fact that that is a school environment and anything can happen what will happen in the event of students unrest and the school is closed down, we should remember that this is a league that is last several months and not a one week tournaments,” Ogunade concluded.

I want to use this medium to reassure the NBBF, the Sponsors and the basketball fraternity of the determination of the new LSBBA board that we are committed to the upliftment of the game, it is therefore our believe that the sports hall of the Rowe Park Sports Center is conducive for a league of such magnitude and will guarantee the necessary mileage for the sponsors.

I equally want to urged the inspection committee made up of the out going Secretary of the NBBF, Chinedu Ezealah and the Sponsors V-Mobile Nigeria to pay a visit to the Rowe Park Sports Center for on the spot assessment.
