Ogunjobi should take a rest – advice Popoola

The last may not have been heard from the secretariat of the Nigerian Football Association, NFA over the shoddy way the Ibrahim Galadima led board handled the issue of the Taiwo Ogunjobi led management team, but even at that a clarion call has gone out to the former Chief Operating Officer of the Abuja Glass House, Ogunjobi to take a deserving rest before jumping on offers that may come his way.

Giving this advice is the Sports Manager of Union Bank sports club, Tunde Popoola who described Ogunjibi as having lived up to expectation while he heldsway at the NFA as its Secretary General before things fell apart between him and the Sports Minister.

The Union Bank Sports boss told Nigeriasports.com that the Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima led board must ensure that coach Christain Chukwu gets the necessary support in his quest to qualify Nigeria for the German 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Excerpt:

On Ogunjobi Sack: I just wish those carrying out the re-organization at the NFA knows what they are doing, but I want to state here that the minister acted hastily because this is a democratic setting where things must be seen to done fairly.

The minister should compel the NFA to tell the whole world what the former Secretary General has done wrong. From the report of the panel set up the football to probe corrupt allegation leveled against Ogunjobi and other key member of his cabinet gave the former Sec-Gen.

A clean bill of health, I mean it is amazing that some could be gunning for personal vendetta in this matter. I don’t think we’ve heard the last of the matter, Nigerians have a right to know the truth of the whole thing that is if the man is found wanting the law should take its cause not the way the minister made the NFA to go about it.

And my advice to the former Julius Berger General Manager is to take a deserving rest.

On Ogunjobi's performance: He is not a failure in the rear sense but he allowed a few things to go wrong which ought not to be like the issue of over bloated staff at the glass house.

On the world/Nations Qualifiers: We are not too serious in terms of preparation but then because in Nigeria today it is has become a regular norm for us to do things hastily but some of us still fear or rather doubt NFA seriousness.

On Coach Christian Chukwu: The man should be encouraged by Nigerians especially those that have one or two things to do with the running of our football. I think Chukwu has been embarrassed enough by the issue of hiring or not hiring a foreign coach to come and boss and I want to state here that qualification for the Germany 2006 mundial is a most.

On Local League: I want to join right thinking Nigerians especially football lovers to congratulate our referees for a job well done at least they have lived above board in the matches played so far and one just hope that they will keep up the tempo till the end, but I also want to draw the attention of the Nigeria Professional League, NPL committee to the danger of assigning one referee to handle all the matches involving a team in the league as is our (Union Bank fact) case so far, though we are not saying that the said referee is biased but we should at least have other referees handle our games.

Union Bank Fc Prospect in the League: Its good we lost at this stage of the league so as to buckle up for the challenges ahead instead of doing so well at the beginning only to fizzle out when it matters most. Though it is painful that we lost at home to Fc Ebiede but in all I think it is a good development and the premier league remain our focus.

Other Sports: We shall continue to render the best we could as a responsible corporate citizen, our achievement so far in sports generally can speak for itself we have remain the best in every area we have put our hand talk of football, yes we missed promotion to the premier league by the whisker, in Basketball we made it to the final-eight play-off in our first outing (go to basketball segment for details), our table tennis and hockey teams are the best in the country today and we shall continue to strive to make it so.
