Bremen wins race for Owomoyela

Owomoyela has earned a place in the national team under coach Juergen Klinsmann
Werder Bremen has won the race to land the versatile German international Patrick Owomoyela from Arminia Bielefeld, Bremen's general manager said.

Klaus Allofs said his club and Owomoyela had agreed on personal terms and that Bremen was now negotiating a transfer fee for the defensive player.

"I think we'll have a deal in the next few days,'' Allofs said.

Sought by several Bundesliga clubs, he usually plays on the right side, either as a defender or a midfielder.

He's bound by contract to Bielefeld for another season but the club has indicated it was willing to release him for the right price.
