Nigeria set for World Bench press

Five lifters will represent Nigeria at the 5th World Men Bench Press tagged “Masters Category” which is meant for lifters above the age of forty, is scheduled to hold from the 20th to 24th April ,2005 at the Czech Republic.


The Secretary General Of the Nigeria Professional Power lifters Association (NPPA) Sangode Oladipupo said that the lifters that would represent the country at the global championship are Prince Kennedy China, Joseph Ikenwonu, Martins Ezendu, Ndidi Agbowa, Hadome Felix .

Oladipupo said that South Africa has been the only Africa representative at the global level and this is the first time Nigeria is participating at the world championship since the beginning of the championship in 2000, which bring the total of Africa representative to two.

According to him,” I’m very that Nigeria is participating at the World championship for the first as this would afford us the opportunity to showcase the quality of lifters and also expose them to the rules guiding power lifting at the world level”.

He stressed that the lifters had been educated on the doping system in which most lifters make use of enhancing drugs which would help them to perform better at any championship.

“I’m very happy that we’ve educated the lifters on the dangers of making use of drugs which have adverse effect on them later in life and before they leave the country to Czech Republic a doping test would be conducted to certify them fit because we don’t any lifter to dent the image of the country”, Oladipupo said.

The Scribe of the association promised that Nigeria would win medals at the championship since Nigeria is known to be the best country in Power lifting in the World and Africa, adding that the lifters are already in camp in preparation for the championship.
 
He further stressed that preparation is are in top gear as Nigeria is bidding to host the 2009 World Bench Press Championship as well as to participate at the World Women Championship billed to take place in May in Finland..

Said he, “ we’ve written to the international about the inclusion of  Nigeria at the Women Championship taking place in Finland in two months time as this will expose our women too at the international level although, this is the first time Nigeria would be participating at the global”.
