Agagu boys set for Cyprus

Not less than 120 countries will vie honour at the 4th edition of the Cyprus International Youth Soccer tournament scheduled to take place from the 28th April to 3rd May 2005 in Cyprus. Agugu boys from Ilaje football Academy, a youth academy based in Ondo State will be representing Ngeria at the chanpionship.

According to the the African Co-ordinator Allen Abejoye  the championship which is for boys between the ages of 12 and 14 is aimed promoting international friendship between different countries amongst children as well as to provide a high quality tournament for teams of good standard which would be played on good quality pitches and managed to a high professional level and also promote the culture, traditions and the customs of the local people of Cyprus.

“I’m very happy that Nigeria is participating at this youth championship, it’s not easy grooming players at this level to represent the country at international championship. Nigeria participated at the championship last but could not go beyond the quarter-final, adding that with the quality of players we’ll parade at the championship, Nigeria would get to the final”.

He maintained that the Ondo State government has promised to sponsor the boys to the championship as this is Governor Agagu contribution to the development of sport at the grassroot and also to a way of selecting players that would represent the State at the 15th National sports Festival tagged “Gateway 2006”.

Said He,” I’ll like to thank the government of Ondo State for their Support especially for their involvement in the development for sports at the grassroot which has been the bane of reformation in sports for any nation”.
 
Meanwhile, Allen further stressed that the boys already in camp in an unclosed location in Ekiti-pupa in preparation for the week-long competition which begins next month.
