Lagos Associations comes alive March 8

In a bid to reposition sports in Lagos State the various sporting associations in the commercial capital of Nigeria will be officially unveiled next Tuesday at the Rowe Part Sports Center, Yaba.

In a statement credited to the sports council executive chairman Agboola Pinheiro that the inauguration became necessary in order for the various association to commence work immediately ahead the 2006 national sports festival to be hosted by Ogun State.

The council chairman stated that a total number of thirty-three sports will come on stream which includes 28 old ones and five new ones with a few old chairmen returning.

According to the chairman some of the returning chairman includes Brig.-Gen. Sola Ayo Vaghan for shooting, Babs Ogunade for Basketball, George Wiltshire (Cricket) and Ashim Oyekan (Athletics) while some new ones that are expected to bring their wealth of experience to bear on these association includes Enitan Oshodi for Table tennis, Sina Aigoro (Golf) and Gunther Riege Cycling.

The state commissioner for Youth and Sports Opeyemi Bamidele is expected to perform the swearing ceremony for the new chairmen and their members.
