Enyimba Signs 20 New Players

From Juliana Taiwo in Abuja

The Chairman of Enyimba Football Club of Aba, Chief Anyansi Agwu has said the club has signed 20 new players including four Flying Eagles players - David Solomom, Obina Nsofor, Ifeanyi Odadiah and Golden
Eagles Sunday Mbah  - to ensure the club’s records both at national and international levels are maintain.
Speaking to newsmen at the weekend, Agwu no player is a free agent in the club as all of them were signed on a two-year contract but the Club will not in anyway stand in way of any player who wants to leave.
He stressed that the club was as a matter of fact asking players to go. "The exodus of players will bring out the best in the team this season because the players will be hungry to make names for themselves and face challenges. We asked the former players to leave because they have won the League title three times and have won the CAF Champions League two times, and have also won the Super Cup so most of them are not motivated or challenged any more."
He revealed that he was in South Africa and Tunisia a few days back to clear players like Demian Ode and
Obinna Nwaneri, Oga Opala and Onyekachi Okonkwo. He said some of them that left the club, left with a proviso to return if the contract they are in search of fails to materialise.

Amokachi debuts for Nasarawa United

DANIEL 'The Bull' Amokachi has said he could make his sensational comeback in the local league as early this weekend when Premier League action kicks off across the country.

Rasheed Yekini is likely to star for Gateway football club, Abeokuta.

Amokachi has been registered by newly promoted Nasarawa United as a player-coach.

"I should be ready for the opening day event though I'm a little short of match fitness. My breathing is a little too hard but my knee has been holding up for the past two years even though it reacts sometimes," Amokachi said.

'The Bull' has not played competitive football in the last five years or so after he had to undergo three major knee surgeries. And he is only staging a return to the local league 16 years after he last played for Ranch Bees.

"I played in our 1-1 draw with Sharks in Lafia. We also drew 1-1 with Zamfara United. But our best game was yesterday (Saturday) against Kano Pillars. I did not play and we may have lost 1-0 but you could see that we have begun to take shape," he said.

"I'm first and foremost a coach. But as a player on the pitch, I will be pushing the other players as part of our team strategy," said the forward, who also disclosed he will be maintaining his support striker
role for 'The Solid Miners.'
He is also upbeat about the club's chances of staying put in the top flight.

"We will work very hard to survive in the Premier League. That's our top target," said the former World Cup star.`
