Taribo West Laments Okocha's Miss

Nigerian International, Taribo West has lamented Jay Jay Okocha's inability to win the African footballer of the year award, nigeriasports.com can report.

"any of the three players nominated could have won the award but i thought Okocha did well enough to win" Taribo told 105.5 cosmo fm.

"Okocha was wonderful at the African cup of Nations and if that was to be the major yardstick then he should have gotten it but the goal scoring form of Eto'o Fils at club level seemed to have drowned Jay Jay's nations cup ahievements"

On his career in Qatar, the former Auxerre, Inter and AC Milan star said all is well and that he is doing well and the club officials are happy wiith his contributions.

when asked about the Super Eagles, the rugged defender said he has reached out several times to the coach and the NFA and they assured him that he will be called.

"i have called the coach and the NFA several times and they told me that i will be called upon but since then nothing has come from them" he stated.

Adding that "i'll keep waiting, may be one day they will call me. I am ready anytime i'm called upon.

Maybe if it had been Sunday Oliseh or Taribo West, then they could have won the African Player of the year. Sunday Oliseh should come back to the National Team otherwise Nigeria is doomed and the 2002 World Cup Soccer would be there last participation.

It is a good spirit from Taribo West, willingness to serve the country, but I think the more we continue to rely on established player like Taribo and the likes, our football wont grow.
These players should learn from Okocha, who is trying to shed some responsibilities in the national team, so that young players can be tried.
Remember at Algeria 90 nations cup, The then NFA chairman told Westerhof, he doesnt want Amokachi in the national team because of his performance then, but in 1994, the guy came powerfully to win nations cup.
Player like Amunike was almost forgotten on the bench because of the so called established player, but when he got the opportunity in the final game, he exploded.
Please, when selecting players for national assignment, I think experience and current form should be looked into, so that we can achieve the desire result

Taribo West should be called up to shore up the Super Eagles defence line.Isaac Okoronkwo is currently clubless,Eric Ejiofor has lost form,Seyi Olajengbesi is just coming out of injury,Gabriel Melkam is nursing an injury,Romanus Orjinta has been sacked by his Norwegian club,we surely need Taribo now!
