Dolphin tales of woe from malabo
Dolphin football club of port Harcourt received their first taste of Malabo hospitality on arrival AT the aeroporto International de Malabo on Thursday as there was no one from the host side, Renacimiento or the Football federation Federation of Equatorial Guinea.
The thirty three man delegation of Dolphin arrived at 12 noon on Thursday and had to stay at the qirport for about two and half hours before making their way to the Hotel Yoly that had been booked for them by their hosts. According to the media officer of the club, In contrast to what obtained in Port Harcourt, when Renacimiento visited, no meal was served to the team until a quarter to six in the evening. On Friday morning a ten seater mini bus was used to convey the team to training and had to make two trips to the training pitch and there was still no one from the host country to welcome the team or provide a program of activities. However the members of the Port Harcourt based side have taken it in their strides saying they knew all along that the reception would be this hostile and were prepared for it. When Dolphin of port Harcourt do battle with Renacimiento of Malabo in the CAF champions league 2nd leg preliminary round match on sunday, support would not be lacking. Shortly after the team settled down on thurday evening members of the Nigerian community in Malabo visited the team´s hotel and expressed their desire to see a good match and on their part give dolphin all the support they will need. The Nigerians, who have an organised community in Malabo would storm the estadio la paz, venue of the encounter on Sunday, hoping for another Nigerian victory after the victory of Julius Berger last year in the champions league and the Falconets in the world under nineteen qualifiers. The fear of control There is a silent fear Nigerians in Malabo have if Dolphin becomes winners in Sunday’s encounter. One Nigerian told me yesterday that if dolphin win there will be control in Malabo through out next week. Control is simply a term used to describe checks by immigration officers for people living in the country without proper documentation. ¨The last time Julius Berger won here a lot of Nigerians were arrested and deported the following week and the same thing happened when the junior Falcons won here last year, a Nigerian trader called Emeka told me.
Ezeji out of sunday´s match
Exeji limped out of training after only ten minutes on the pitch, clutching his thighs. Already, Bola Bello could not make the trip since he was deemed by the coaches not to be fully fit and this latest setback will be a big blow to the ambitions of dolphin on sunday.
