Kalkaba promise new tracks

President of the African Athletics Confederation (AAC), Colonel Malboum Ahmed Kalkaba has pledged new tracks at the National Stadium, Lagos and the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna from the continental body.

This promise was made when the Cameroonian boss of African athletics came into the country during the week for a meeting with government top functionaries and stakeholders on the forthcoming Team Africa Versus Team America athletics challenge billed for the federal capital, Abuja next month.

The challenge, which will see American athletes storm the Nigeria administrative capital for the second time in 20 months, is billed for March 12, and will see each of the two teams fielding three athletes in each of the 21 events to be competed for in a three -hour period.

“He has promised us new tracks in Lagos and Kaduna and that would be good so that athletes in the two cities can train easily and be ready for competitions.

"We don’t really get much from the AAC but we can proceed from this platform and get more, and the Team Africa Versus Team America extravaganza in Abuja will go a long way in focusing the spotlight on Nigeria and we can then begin to really demand for our due from both the AAC and the IAAF”, said Dan Ngerem, President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and Vice-President of the Africa Foundation, organizers of the meet.
