Polo clocks 100-years in Nigeria

The former captain of Lagos Polo Club, Mr. Dapo Ojora, has described the growth of polo in Nigeria as unprecedented in the history of any game.

Ojora who spoke against the backdrop of the celebration of a hundred years of polo in Nigeria said polo, which hitherto, was a game exclusively reserved for foreigners, has now grown to an extent that foreign players jostle to participate in Nigerian tournaments.

“The 100 years we are celebrating in polo in Nigeria has been years of solid development. Polo is not declining and this is shown by the number of teams participating in the centenary tournament,” he said.

The former captain of Lagos Polo Club added that game is erroneously referred to as a game for the rich but membership of the club cuts across all strata of the society.

Captain of the Lagos Polo Club, Mr. Francis Ogboru, said over the years, the standard of the game had improved tremendously.
