Ofere chooses Dolphin ahead of Rangers

Ofere Edward, in the center of the storm
Controversial former Pepsi Academy of Lagos attacker, Ofere Edward has told nigeriasports.com categorically that he is a Dolphin of Port Harcourt player and Rangers International of Enugu has no hold over him.

Ofere Edward played for Rangers in the 2004 Charity Cup against Dolphin and scored the two goals that buried double Champions,  Dolphin in Port Harcourt and soon after sparked off what could possible be the biggest transfer squabble in recent times in Nigerian Football.

Soon after the Charity Cup match, Dolphin promptly signed on Ofere, a development that has caused a war of word between officials of both club in the last couple of weeks.

However, the player at the center of the storm says he signed for Dolphin for the 2005 season and remains a Dolphin’s player.

“I was actually cleared from Pepsi to Rangers, but they failed to pay my clearance so Dolphin capitalized on that and Pepsi has released my clearance to Dolphin.”

He denied claims made by Rangers International of Enugu Chairman; Davidson Owumi that he has already signed forms for them for the Premier League and CAF Confederations Cup.

“I have not signed for Rangers. That is not true. I did not Sign for Rangers so I do not know where they got that from.”

Edward said he joined Pepsi as a kid and had been there until he joined Rangers in 2004.

However, Rangers boss, Davidson Owumi claims Ofere is still a Rangers player and would not lace his boots for Dolphin in 2005.

This could be a test case for the new League Management Committee. I hate to see our young start on the wrong footing. Making enemies early in their career in certainly not a booster. If he cannot mange himself at the Nigerian level let's hope that Edward will not mare his future when he gets to Europe (I believe he will get there sooner than later).
