AEL of Cyprus snaps up Afusi

Cyprus top division side AEL Limassol FC has completed the signing of former Gabros international forward Joseph Chukwuemeka Afusi for the rest of the season, Nigeriasports.com can report.

The Anambra born Afusi began his football with the famous Rangers youth academy before he was snapped up by Gabros.

The 22-year-old had a mixed season with the Nnewi side in his short stint [2003/04 season]  before he joined the Europe train.

After a successful spell in Switzerland with 1 Lige side Kurslingen, from where he joined the Cypriot side, he will be hoping to succeed in a league noted for its pace and physical aggression.

A proven goal scorer in the local scene [seven goals in 16-games], Joseph Afusi now has got the chance to finally shake off his disappointing past and put his career back on track at AEL.

The skillful player impressed officials of the club including former Soviet-Union star Oleh Protasov in training and will be hoping to repeat his vein of form in front of goal, when he finally makes his debut this weekend.

AEL Limassol FC are currently joint-fifth in the Cypriot table has an option of extending the contract of the player by a year, depending on how much impact he has at the club.

Having proved himself in Asia and Africa, the gentle-talking player will be hoping to make the best of his new challenge, but the biggest task for now is to prove to fans, officials and the media in Cyprus that he is worth every dime.
