Dolphin win against Renacimiento

Dolphin Football club of Nigeria on Sunday boosted their chances of qualifying for the first round of the CAF Champions league following a 3-0 win over Renacimiento of Equatorial Guinea at the Port Harcourt Liberation Stadium.

Ochuko Ojobo opened scoring for Dolphin in the 11th minute after he blasted home a pull-out from Jacob Aikhionbare from the left.

Victor Ezeji increased the tally in the 43rd minute when he calmly turned around in the box to slot home behind the Guinean Keeper.

A minute later, Ezeji hit the cross bar off a pullout from Ochuko Ojobo.

Midway into the second half, Ezeji missed a penalty after he was pulled down in the box.

His lame kick was cuddled by keeper Joseph De-pespuidenx who had come in about five minutes earlier.

Senegalese import, Hadji Mbaye-ngiaya, in number fifteen shirt was a torn in the flesh of the Dolphin defence turning central defender, Yakubu Attah around each time he had the bal but his only short at goal was saved by Keeper Austin Brown.

Central Defender, Diop Birama, another Senegalese playing for Renacimiento had a great game, giving Ezeji and Jacob Akhionbare a lot of work to do.

The game was coming to a close when Kelechi Osunwa who was clearly the man of the match headed home from close range, a goal that was protested by the Renacimiento players who argued Osunwa was off-side.

Dolphin Technical Adviser, Musa Abdulahi told nigeriasports.com after the match that his players were relaxed in the match.

“We were also match rusty as this is our first competitive game since the FA cup final in October last year.”

Musa also said the new balls affected the game.

Cameroonian born coach of Renacimiento was optimistic his players have what it takes to beat Dolphin.

“Their defence was suspect and my players would take advantage of it to score.”

This is a match that we don't have to embark on celebrations. We need to work hard for us to get beyond this stage.
