Makinwa relishes new challenge

The former Regianna, Como and Modena player believes he can make the best of his opportunity this term despite the club’s position on the table.

“I am excited about the opportunity of playing in the top flight again,” he told Nigeriasports.com

Although he has scored eleven goals for Serie B leaders Genoa, Makinwa concedes that the odds of joining a side doomed for relegation doesn’t scare him.

"I have been looking forward to that chance with Genoa next season but certain things happen in football that is inexplicable.

“I plan to do my best for the club and see what happens at the end of the season but to be honest I will keep an eye on Genoa and wish them well,"
 
There is need for that, since the move includes a co-ownership of the player by both clubs with Atalanta having the option of buying him out completely next year- depending on the player’s preference.

Makinwa is expected to make his debut for the club against Juventus on Sunday after training for the first time on Saturday with his new teammates, and he confessed the opposition poses no threat to him.

“I’ve played against Juventus in the Serie A last season and also in Coppa Italia but as a footballer every game is same, I just hope for a good start,” he concluded.

It promises to be an exciting start to his Atalanta career; the youngster scored a remarkable goal against Inter Milan last January while playing for Modena- his lone strike in 16-games.
