CAF Champions League: Dolphin vs Renacimiento

Dolphin football Club of Nigeria begins their CAF Champions league Campaign on Sunday in the preliminary round against Renacimiento of Equatorial Guinea. The Port Harcourt based side clinched the league and FA cup last year to emerge as Nigeria’s best.

The club led by Musa Abdulahi had camped at Eket and in Kaduna for many weeks ahead of the match.

Dolphin contracted some notable players in the league to beef up their squad ahead of the 2005 football season.

Names like, Endurance Idahor, Obinna Nnodim, Iyasere Odili, Jacob Akionbare and Uche Akubuike were signed on from Julius Berger, while Victor Babayaro and Emma Idache joined from Wikki Tourist.

Other new players signed are Alex Nwokolo and Emma Ayodeji from NPA as well as OFere Edward from the Pepsi Academy.

Dolphin’s home ground, the liberation stadium is not left out as it now wears a new look after massive renovation work on it.

One thing that may however spoil the fun is the lack of attendance by spectators who have continued to show apathy towards games involving Dolphin.

Renacimiento in with Cameroonian army

Dolphins opponents, Renacimiento of Equatorial Guinea, got their big break when they signed on Cameroonian Coach, Alain Wabo, also known as Capello in 2004.

When the club President, Essono Edjo took his search for a credible coach to Cameroon, he first contracted Coach Nicolas Tonyè who did not want to leave Cameroon so he directed them to his friend, Alain Wabo, his ex-colleague at Mount-Cameroon FC, who accepted without hesitating.

dolphin should not let any stone unturn because they are in for a big battle and should prepare very well against the north africans because they are the traditional home of african league.
