Ayeni Commends D’rovans Boxing Classics

The vice president of the Nigeria Amatear boxing Association(NABA) General O. Ayeni has commended the organizers of the maiden edition of the D’Rovans ‘champion of champion’ boxing classics which was held at last weekend in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital.

 In an interview with nigeriasports.com , Ayeni stressed that the boxers were discovered at the 8th All Africa games which was in Abuja in 2004 and since after their discovering the association have never had the opportunity to mold them at the national level for future championship.

"This is first time NABA is organizing a championship of this magnitude for Nigeria boxers to come together and fight among themselves despite that they have being training in their respective clubs and States. It has afford us the opportunity to know their loopholes, which l believe their coaches have noted their mistakes".

"With what we’ve seen at this championship, l can tell you that Nigeria boxers have improved in their skills and the technicalities have the game have also improved. I must commend the boxers and the official who participated in this championship. I must confess to you that Nigerian boxers and boxing in Nigeria has a future’.

He stressed that the association has put up a lot of programme this year which is aimed at keeping the boxers fit and also to prepare them ahead of the Commonwealth Games and the Olympic Games.

According to him, " the joy of every country is to do well at International championship, with the programmes of activities lined up for our boxers this year, l think they will redeem Nigeria’s image internationally".

Ayeni maintained that there is going to be a National boxing championship coming up later in the year which is aimed at selecting talents and they will merged with the present champions for proper training under an experience coach.
