Imo State-Boxing coach cry out for help
The Coach of Imo State Amateur Boxing Association(IABA) Zacheus Ezewuike has rated the level of development of boxing in state very low and has called on individual and corporate oganisation to come the aid of boxing in the State.
Speaking with Nigeriasports.com at the just concluded D’Rovans ‘champiom of champion’ boxing classics, Ezewuike said that the reason is attributed to lack of sponsors which have made the sports not to grow in the state. "It is really sad although it is not easy developing the boxing especially when there are not sponsors but we’re not relenting in our effort to make sure that the sport grow in the Imo State, adding that the State is trying to come back to the top in boxing and believing that in the near future Imo state will definitely be a state to reckon with in Boxing". He further stressed that the state would organize a mini boxing competition later in the year, in the 27 local government and also an Inter State Championship which is aimed at selecting boxers that will represent the Imo State at the 15th National Sports Festival tagged Gateway 2006 in Ogun State. According to him," I’ve mapped out programme of activities for the year which aimed at engaging the boxers and also help them to keep fit, promising that the State Festival team will be ready in the next six months". "I’m working timelessly since l took over as the boxing coach in Imo State last year October to make sure that Imo win gold medals at the 15th National Festival in Ogun State next year. I am working towards it and l know by the special grace of God l will succeed, Ezewuike told nigeriasports.com. Meanwhile, he advised that since Nigeria is bound with talents, he enjoined corporate organizations and individual to support boxing both at the National and State level, so that Nigeria will maintain its position both in Africa and the world at large.
