Ahead of the 2005 Nigerian Premier League season, new entrants, Sharks Football Club of Port Harcourt has secured the clearance of four players from Sunshine Stars, Delta United, Rangers, Enyimba and Bendel Insurance of Benin, nigeriasports.com can report.

Team Manager of the Club, Sunny Iseokweima told nigeriasports.com on Monday night that the club has secured the clearance of Sarafa Usman from Sunshine Stars of Akure, Prince Igweokolo from Rangers, Onyebuchi Chukwuma from CAF Chaampions League cup holders, Enyimba and the duo of Charles Omokaro and Orobotor Odion from Bendel Insurance.

“I can confirm that we have cleared these players and at least ten more will be cleared within the next week. It’s just that we are careful to reveal names of players before we get their clearance because of the Nigerian factor where clubs might begin to prove a stumbling as soon as word gets to the press before clearance is secure.”

Iseokweima confirmed that Sharks are indeed ready for the 2005 football season and may just have a friendly match against city rivals Dolphin on Saturday to prepare both sides for the task ahead.

“Dolphin plays against Insurance of Benin on Wednesday and should return to Port Harcourt immediately after and we are planning a match between the two sides, for the benefit of Port Harcourt people to enjoy soccer at its best.”

While Dolphin has been in Kaduna the last three weeks, Sharks have been training in Port Harcourt under the tutelage of Shaibu Amodu, Solomon Ogbeide and Imama Amakpakabor.

Meanwhile, Sharks Technical Manager, Shaibu Amodu has signed a new contract with Sharks that will keep him in Port Harcourt until November 2006.

Team Manager of the Club, Sunny Iseokweima told nigeriasports.com that he would not be able to reveal the financial worth of the deal, since only the Sports Commissioner and Sole Administrator of the Club; Allwell Onyesoh is in the best position to do that.

“These are delicate issues in these parts so I wont be able to reveal that, but one thing I can say is that every one is happy now that the long wait for Amodu to be committed is over.”
