Vivian shot another record!

 
Commonwealth, All Africa games champion and Team Nigeria’s pride, Vivian Chukwuemeka was the cynosure of all eyes at the Mainbowl of the national stadium Abuja on Saturday.
Vivian who sets a new Games Record (GR) with her 18.12 throw was full of excitement, as she confided in nigeriasports.com, that “Once you are here you don’t think of the records but what you set out to do and that’s what I just did, but all glory be to God” added the Azusa Pacific University undergraduate.


Rainfall to the rescue of a burnt track!

It was an atmosphere that sent everyone running for cover Saturday in Abuja. Being the first day of the athletics event and the clock ticking to the end of event heaven showered it’s blessing to the fury of the fans that all ran for cover. “It’s not new, afterall it happened at Sydney 2000 Olympics” were the words of Olympic medalist Falilat ogunkoya.

Meanwhile, Nigeria set up a great final showdown with the Men and Female sprinters in the 100metres setting up an epic clash. Omagbemi Onyali, Endurance Ojokolo Edem Emem are the trio for the final showdown.
The men final will also see Deji Aliu and Uchenna Emedolu carrying the nations flag in the finals.


African Pugilists: Great Punchers, Low level enlightenment!

“The fact that some African countries fail to update their coaches and boxers with the changing rules and regulations, guiding boxing can easily be traced to the decline of the game in the continent”.

These were the words of AIBA representative, General Francis Were Nganweso, has he heaped the huge blame of the continent’s woes on countries that has failed to interprete the rules that are part of the global reforms aimed at changing the face of amateur boxing to make it a safer sport.


Basketball: Dreams come true!

Udoka Mfon of the Team Nigeria, female basketball side had dreamt of winning the gold medal of the AAG since 1999. That year she was invited to be a part of the team to Johannesburg but a knee injury dashed her hope then. She simply reflects on the past and present situation by saying “I was furious with myself in 1999 but here am in 2003 with the joy of casting that past behind me, a dream come true I will say ”


Dashed Hopes for the Hoopers!

Despite putting up one of the best team support ever in the history of the All Africa games, THE HOOPERS (The supporters club of team Nigeria basketball side) were full of disappointments Friday night when the team lost out in the classification battle against Senegal. One of the tireless members lamented by saying “ It‘s 1.30am in the morning here and you can see what Basketball means to me” he asked rhetorically
“I just don’t know what happened today for Senegal shouldn’t have won this game but this is too bad to swallow ”


Stadium of Light and Hope!

The Abuja international stadium, according to a female journalist from Ethiopia Martha Belay is equivalent of Sunderland’s stadium of light. “ Sitting here I am feeling am inside the same stadium of Sunderland ” she also revealed that “ Your sports people have really set a new record in building a stadium of this magnitude in Africa”.

Hockey trashing for Team Nigeria!

The Team South Africa female hockey side made mincemeat of their Nigerian opponents on Saturday in one-sided game. They walloped Nigeria 7-1 thus making a bold statement that they are untouchable in Africa. “ I can’t believe this is happening, I guess these girls are pregnant” was the bitter statement of a fan, at the Hockey pitch.
