Bayelsa Queens are Champions of Nigeria![]() In the final day of matches for the super six league, Bayelsa Queens came from two goals down to beat Solid babes of Lafia 3-2 to end with eight points from four matches. Bayesla Queens had earlier drawn against FCT Queens and Pelican stars, but beat Delta Queens 1-0 and then Solid babes. In the second match of the closing day, FCT Queens of Abuja and Pelican Stars of Calabar ended it 2-2, in a match they both needed to win to have any realistic chance of winning the league. Champions fall like a pack of cards Defending Champions, Delta Queens of Asaba showed little resistance as they easily gave away their title to Bayelsa Queens. The Champions who were without three of their National Team Stars, Vera Okolo, Precious Dede and Lizzy Johnson, all out with insjuries and sickness had no answer to the forays of the other clubs in the six-day play-offs. Most surprising was the way they fell to new comers, Solid babes of Lafia 4-2. Poor motivation, nigeriasports.com reports, was responsible for the poor showing of Delta Queens in the league. Some have not received sign on fees as their cheques bounced while none of the new players have received any salaries this year. New kids on the block Solid babes of Lafia may not have won the Super Six but they have proved to the whole world that they are indeed a force to be reckoned with, as far as female football is concerned. Solid babes are less than three years old and are playing their first season in the top league but shocked the Champions, Delta Queens 4-2 in a match that stunned all female football watchers.
