‘Bring them on’-Samuel Peter

Samuel Peter
“All I want right now is to get in there and tell those pretenders that I am the real one and show them what it means to step in to the ring with ‘The Nigerian Night Mare’” Samuel Peter. Samuel Peter is the heavyweight name on the lips of fight fans around the world now after the rather easy way he prosecuted what was to be his biggest test since turning pro four years ago. His last weekend victory over more experienced Jeremy Williams who was also knocked out by Henry Akinwande five years ago to win the WBO title then has put him (Peter) on the frontline of the heavyweight boxing world nigeriasports.com can report.

With a devastating record of 21-0 (18KOs) there is no stopping the ‘Nigerian nightmare’.
“I worked very hard to attain the position I am now in world heavy weight boxing and worked harder for that fight against Williams because he talked too much ahead of the fight” Peter said in an interview on 93.5 COSMO FM.

Adding that “Americans were saying that I was going to meet my waterloo against Williams and it was then that I told them and Williams himself that I was going to end it in two and of course I did it and I’m happy”

“I run on the mountains every morning and jog a whole distance in training and do other tedious things that some of these over bloated heavyweights can not do in training”
The Akwa Ibom born Pugilist said he is now ready and focused on fighting any of the top ten fighters in the world now and wants to get a chance to fight for any of the titles come 2005.

The 2000 Olympian was modest in saying that he does believe there is any politics in the heavy weight class. “I don’t believe there is any politics in the heavyweight class; I believe my strength and my winnings will do it for me”.

On the case of Andrew Golota coming back from a three year absence and getting a world title shot, Peter said it was for his durability and that he was not bothered “because they have been there for long and I am just starting”

Talking about his penultimate two fights before Williams in which he was taken to the distance by journey men, Shufford and Jovo Pudar, Samuel Peter said “it was a decision me and my trainer took with out the knowledge of my Manager to let the fights go the distance to tell cynics that I can fight for twelve rounds and not just a four, six or ten rounds fighter”

On what he thinks about the Heavy weight division these days he said “there are so many pretenders these days and my target is to clean the mess that is the division now, I want to fight those in the top ten now”.

On how he got the name ‘Nigerian Night mare’-
“my manager gave me that name as he thought it best describes me and my big punches, he believes and I believe too that there is no heavyweight now that has my kind of punch”

Peter’s Manager Ivalyo Gotzev on the wire said, “Fear is back in heavyweight boxing after that second round destruction of Williams,” he said. “We really want to start a new era and rid the division of all its excess weight and give out pensions to all these aging fighters.

These older guys will all be reconsidering whether to stay in the game now that they’ve seen what a nightmare it is to face Samuel. We’ll be looking to put Samuel in with anybody in the top ten next.”
There is no heavyweight out there that can beat Samuel.

We have no worries about putting him in with anybody in the top ten. We’d like to see him in against any of them.” After Saturday night, Vitali will be trying to avoid Samuel at all costs, but the public will demand it eventually.

If Vitali doesn’t want any part of it, we’ll start with the other guys, like Ruiz or Byrd, or that loudmouth James Toney. We’d love to see if James has some action left in him. Samuel wants to face him next since that would be a fight fans’ fight.”

“Tell all of them in the top ten that I’m coming,” added Peter.
