Aiyenugba contented with role

Dele Aiyenugba with the Caf Super Cup
Enyimba penalty hero in their semi-final penalty shoot-out victory over Esperance, Dele Aiyenugba told Nigeriasports.com he is happy playing second fiddle to Vincent Enyeama.

Aiyenugba who replaced Nigeria first choice Enyeama three minutes into stoppage time and saved two spot kicks to edge the champions ahead confessed that he got strong inspirations from his rival.

“What happened in Tunis wouldn’t have been possible if not for Vincent and my team mates.

“He [Vincent] kept assuring me that I could do it and I didn’t let him down. It’s better to always wait on your time to deliver and that was exactly what I did.

“Despite intimidation and coin throwing by fans of Esperance, I just kept my cool because there was absolutely no second chance when it comes to spot kicks,” said Aiyenugba.

The former national U-23 goalkeeper hope to play another significant role when called upon as Enyimba seek to become only the second club after 1967 and 1968 winners Tout Puissant Englebert of the Democratic Republic of Congo to successfully defend the title.

“It will not be easy to retain the cup but we have a strong spirit and bond to achieve such a glorious feat. No one gave us any chance against Esperance but we conquered against all odds.

“Who knows I might be in between the sticks again saving penalties and that would really be great,” Aiyenugba joked.

Enyimba coach Okey Emordi revealed that the penalty tactics and substitution had been in their plans before it eventually happened.

“We realised that Esperance had won against Etoile on penalties in the Tunisian cup few days back and there was every possibility that a 1-1 draw could leave us with that lottery.

“Aiyenugba is better than Vincent at spot kicks and he turned out to be the match winner for us. He’s a thorough professional who never complained being left on the bench.

“We are banking on him and others to help us in our quest to retain the cup.

The Nigerian side travel to Sousse, Tunisia for the opening leg of this year's tie on 5 December against Etoile Sportive du Sahel.

Nigeria's commercial nerve-centre Lagos, will host the second leg on 12 December.

Dele, you are a good humble young man. I really appreciate your humility. You definately have a great time ahead of you. With your steady growth, you will definately climb the ladder very soon. Well done.

Enyeama is very good but he has to work on his confidence. He has to do something about his penalty abilities. In the final, let dele keep.I think he is high on confidence.Enyeama actually needs a psychologist.

Enyeama commands more confidence to his team mate while playing that's why Dele always stays on bench. Dele need to build on his confidence anytime pressure comes on his way, that's his problem, he let in cheap goals more than Enyeama, in one and one, Enyeama beats him, in corner kicks, give it to Enyeama, but in penalties give it to Dele ( Kite as called by Aba fans). I hope to see Dele in Super Eagles soon in case of any penalty kick.

People like Lither need to check themselves. Enyeama has served Nigeria through the Eagles and Enyimba creditably, and you would call him 'mumu'. Please give him some respect. How many goalkeepers would tackle one-on-one situations like Enyeama? How many exude so much confidence in the area? How many Nigerian goalkeepers have been voted the best in Africa alongside Enyeama. We must honour our heroes, even when they have bad days. The best keepers in the world have their off days. But who says Enyeama played badly in Tunisia? Please mind your spare parts business and let the coaches do what they are paid to do.

Nawa 4 some people self. I wonder how they rate some of our big players.Vin Enyeama is a good goalkeeper any time any day. Whether critics like it or not, he is still the only number one we have today in the country.
I advice Dele to keep on learning in humility from Enyeama coz the patient dog eats the fattest bone.
Up Enyeama, Up Dele, Up Nigeria!

yeah right!!!,
I quite agree with you guys on the posit that enyeama is still 'bout the best we have around...
even your "world" celebrated keepers mess up seriously on their off days.. so buck up vincent, you're still numero uno!!! and Dele "kite" you've got to become a versatile allrounder between the posts..'cos no coach in europe's g'on take you on for spot kicks alon bro...all the same good job...Enyimba gooooooooooooo!!!!!!!
