Mabizela pulls out of mandela challenge

Mabizela
Mbulelo 'Old John' Mabizela, the former Bafana Bafana captain, has turned down the opportunity to play for his country in the Nelson Mandela Challenge against the Super eagles of Nigeria.

Mabizela, whose contract with English Premiership club Tottenham Hotspur was terminated last month, has not played for a while and felt that he was not fit enough for wednesday's Nelson Mandela Cup Challenge match against Nigeria at Ellis Park.

Two other players, Steven Pienaar and Katlego Mphela, withdrew due to injury.

The three will be replaced by Peter Peterson from Moroka Swallows, FC Copenhagen's Elrio van Heerden and Tyron Arendse from Orlando Pirates.

Fifteen of the 21 Bafana Bafana players turned up for yesterday afternoon's first training session in Johannesburg.

The others, which include the likes of Sibusiso Zuma and Quinton Fortune, are being expected tuesday.
