The Golden performance of the Team Nigeria powerlifters continued here on Thursday with a splendid run of 4-Golds and 1-silver medal to their credit. The victorious lifters includes Kike Ogunbanwo (Gold) 75Kg, Olutoro (Gold), *Victoria Nnaji (Silver) 67Kg, Happiness Opara (Gold) 82Kg, Grace Anozie (Gold) 82Kg. Victoria’s silver medal feat was an upset, as she remains the world champion and record holder. FB: Falcons clawed Ethiopia The Team Nigeria female soccer team continued their African invincibility form in Lagos on Thursday as they walloped hapless Ethiopians 7-0 in their last preliminary tie thus sending a danger signal to their semi final opponent. The team captained by veteran Super Falcons star Rita Nwadike, who incidentally got the seventh strike of the Nigerian ladies, is highly tipped to pick up the Gold medal of this event. Golden Table and Tennis!
The Golden expectations of Nigerians in the Table Tennis event came alive here on Thursday as the male and female side triumphed in the doubles event to clinch two additional Gold for Nigeria. They defeated the motivated Egyptians in three sets each to confirm supremacy once again on the continent. The Male side comprises of Segun Toriola, Bode Abiodun, Monday Monrontoun and Kazeem Nosiru, whilst the female side includes old war-horse Funke Osinaike and Bose Kafo with the Offiong sisters, Edem and Cecilia completing the quartet. Hoopers Magic! The supporters club of TEAM NIGERIA was the cynosure of all eyes when Nigeria Women’s Basketball clashed with the Ivorian ladies here on Thursday. It was a game that could best be described as a ‘MIND GAME’. Though the Nigerians triumphed by 72-60 points against their West African neighbours but the magic of the Hoopers was evident for all to see with their endless drums and screams to frustrate the free throws of the Cote ‘d Ivoire ladies. A huge number of 25-free throws were tarnished by the intimidating noise of the Hoopers. The team danced another 10-minutes on the court after the game thanks to the Hoopers! At the end of the day we realise that “WE LOVE THIS GAME! Angola headache! <o:p> </o:p> The Angolan male side defeated the Nigerian Male side by 73-70 in a very close encounter here in Abuja Both nations are considered to be the greatest in the sub-sharan challenge and the tie lived up to its billings. The Angolans one will easily recall defeated Nigeria to the Gold medal of the African Championship in Cairo, Egypt couple of month’s back. 0
