Enyimba through to final

Enyimba celebrate
Enyimba of Nigeria beat Tunisia's 6-5 win over Tunisia's Esperance on penalties to reach the final of the African Champions League.

Sunday's game at the El Menzah stadium in Tunis ended at 1-1 to make the aggregate score 2-2 with both sides having scored an away goal. The win for the reigning champions came when Benin international midfielder Muri Ogunbiyi converted his spot kick to edge the champions ahead in the penalty shoot out.

Tunisian defender Zied Bhairi then blazed his spot kick over and the legendary 'Blood and Gold' were eliminated. The result was heartbreaking for Esperance, who also lost at the semi-finals stage of the competition in 2001 and last year after being runners-up in 1999 and 2000.

Few neutral observers gave Enyimba a chance after mediocre recent form, a lack of fire power in attack, and the refusal of consistent scorer Ndidi Anumnu to travel after being left out of the starting line-up lately.

Enyimba coach Okey Emordi boldly vowed to attack in North Africa and kept his promise, packing midfield with offensive players and although they created few clearcut chances were unlucky to trail 1-0 at half-time.

In a rare slick move on a pitch badly cut up by rain, Jose Clayton, Issam Jomaa and Kamel Zaiem combined to set up striker Ali Zitouni, who sidefooted the ball past goalkeeper Victor Enyeama with 43 minutes gone on a cold, overcast afternoon.

Enyimba increased the pressure in the second half and deservedly levelled in the 60th minute when David Tyavkase turned, ran at retreating Tunisian defenders and scored with a low shot past Jean-Jacques Tizie into the corner of the net.

The Nigerians appeared more likely to break the deadlock until substitute Skander Souayah squandered a good chance for Esperance deep in stoppage time, hitting the side netting when unmarked inside the penalty area.

Emordi took off Nigeria first choice Enyeama three minutes into stoppage time, replacing him with Dele Aiyenugba, who saved spot kicks from Zied Triki and Zaiem while Souayah and Bhairi missed.

Enyimba are seeking to become only the second club after 1967 and 1968 winners Tout Puissant Englebert of the Democratic Republic of Congo to successfully defend the title.

SIR MELODY C. IHEKAIRE (DOWN SOUTH)
Up you boyz. You have made me very Proud to be a Nigerian. You have Proved beyond doubt that the fighting spirit in Nigeria Soccer will never die. You also make me proud for silencing those unpetrotic nigerian soccer fans. I would advice all Nigerian Soccer fans to support our local teams for better and for worse and stop making quick judgment. Please my dear "Peoples Elephant", go for it once more, the Sky is your limit

Once again the enyimba boys have gone into the lions den and came out conquerors. The kind of detemination and resiliance these boys have perform away from home has shown that they are worthy champions. However the battle is not over yet, there is just one more battle to fight. They can do it, Enyimba can win the cup again. However, i will like to call on nigerian fans to stop putting pressure the boys, no matter the situation support enyimba to the last whistle, stop turning against them when they are going through difficulty. They have proven to anyone who cares to know that they can achieve results anywhere, that is what you need to win the cup. A good team can win anywhere be it home or away. Enyimba is a good team surely nobody can stop them now. SUPER ENYIMBA.

I proud to be one of Enyimba Fans. I said earlier "what Enyimba needs is support and encouragement from their fans". Though Tunisians refuse ENYI FANS visa, could not hinder the boys from reaching the finals. I must commend the coach's ability to remove Enyeama (First-choice Goalkeeper), because we all know that Vincent Enyeama is a good keeper but not to the penalty aspect. Thanks also go to the match hero "Aiyenugba", to all Enyimba's administrative crew. THUMBS UP to you all. But let them remember that it is not over until it is over. FINALS WITH ETOILE DE SAHEL ARE AROUND THE CORNER. Enyimba should not relax until they achieve their goals. NO MUCH VISIT TO FAMILIES TO AVOID ACCDENT PLZZZZZZ. AM VERY PROUD TO BE NIGERIAN.

True Champions! Much as I would congratulate Enyimba and Nigerians, I would like to advice the Elephants to sharpen their attack. They should prepare for the worst in Tunisia at the finals, banking on their experience in Egypt. And the armchair, see-no-good-in-Nigerian critics of our teams should eat their hearts out. Well done boys.
