Team Nigeria has started figuring on the medal table to the delights of people here in Abuja. The major events where the strenght of the nation lies is just springing up and more medals are being expected in the powerlifting and weightlifting.


IOC love lingers!


The International Olympic Committee president, Jacques Rogge stunned Journalists here in Abuja last Monday, when he revealed that “There were many negative comments concerning the hosting ability of Nigeria and its facilities, but the problem is one that is universal” added the Belgian. "The Nigerian people and the organizers have proved that behold all the difficulties of life sports has a treasured place and with this, we in the IOC are highly impressed” he revealed


Nigeria from Athletes View!

Wall of records crumbling!

Nigerians are undoubtedly one of the greatest when it comes to powerlifting in the world and such feat continued here in the All African Games. The world record set in the powerlifting of the special sports event in far away Malaysiain the year 2002 by Egyptian Fatima Umar has been shattered and a new one set by Nigerian Lucy Ekike. Lucy Ejike lifted 125kg against 110 lifted by Fatima Umar last year and opened a floodgate of gold in that event for Nigeria.

Speaking after the golden lift the overjoyed Lucy Ejike dedicated her gold to God, thanked her colleagues for support assuring Nigerians that more gold medals will come through the event. ‘I prayed very hard for this, God did not only reward my hardwork but also answered my prayers’.

She enjoined her colleagues to stay focused. ‘We will win more medals and Nigeriawill win the All Africa Games’

 

Wrestling Gold shines brighter!


Nigeria’s Gold medallist in the wrestling event at the on going All African games, Isaac Jacob says her medal shines brighter compare to others “I have never seen the medal but it definitely will be shiner than the rest of them”
