Group promotes peace through football

In a bid to develop the game at the grass roots and at the same time preach the message of peace in a volatile part of the City of Port Harcourt, a group called the number six field management committee have begun a three week competition tagged “number six field peace competition”, nigeriasports.com can report.

Chairman of the organising Committee, Aminasa Joe told nigeriasports.com that the idea behind the tourney was to revive sports in that part of Port Harcourt as well as preach the message of peace.

“I want people to know that number six is a peaceful place and it is safe to go there.” Aminasa said.

“Even when there was a crises in that part of Port Harcourt, the number six field is one area where there were no wars or even gun shots.”

“For some time people were scared of hosting anything in town because of the fear of violence but all that is now over.”

The number six field is known for discovery talents for Sharks team especially during the days of Monday Sinclair and even up till today, foreign based players like Iyenemi Furo, George Finidi, Emma Ebiede etc make it a point of duty to play at the number six field whenever they are in town.

In the opening match morocco came from two goals down to beat Bulgaria 3-2 while on Sunday Chile defeated Cameroon 4-2.
