Indomie revives Taekwondo

Over 600 Taekwondo fighters from across the country are expected to feature in the maiden edition of the Inspector General of Police/Indomie National Open Taekwondo Championship which holds at the new Gymnasium, National Stadium Lagos from December 7-9.

The championship initiated by the Nigerian Police Taekwondo Association in conjuction with De-United Food Industry, makers of Indomie Noodles will by organised in accordance with Olympics standards featuring eight categories made up from male and four female categories.

The approved categories are Fin/Flyweight, Bantamweight/featherweight, Lightweight/Welterweight and Middle/Heavyweight. Kiddies will feature five male and three female events.

Skill demonstration by kidsters will be the main attraction of the championship. About fifty talented kid Taekwondo athletes will participate in the special event during the opening and closing ceremonies.

Chairman of the Nigerian Police Taekwondo Association, Gideon Akinsola (CSP) has described the championship as a timely initiative to keep Nigerian Taekwondo fighters busy.

He said that the idea behind the IGP/Indomie National Taekwondo championship is to further propagate the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tafa Balogun Community Policing Initiative.

Akinsola further explained that the championship in the time spirit of the game of Taekwondo will impact the virtues of discipline, courage, honesty and loyalty to the participants.

He said the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) rules and regulations will be applied in the organisation of the championship to ensure standards.
