Strong five battles for supremacy

Five States of the Federation will vie for honours in the water-polo event of the 4th Dr. Peter Odili Open Swimming Championships holding from Tuesday, November 9 in Port Harcourt.

The States are Lagos, which won the recent Water Polo tourney held in Ikoyi Club, Bayelsa, Edo, Delta and Oyo States.

According to the Secretary-General of Nigeria Swimming Federation, Mrs Tayo Oreweme, the decision to include the sport of Water Polo at the 4th Dr. Peter Odili Open Swimming Championships is to encourage water polo players in the country as well as explore possibilities of developing other water-polo sports under the purview of FINA and CANA.

She explained that invited states will bear the cost of accommodation ,feeding and transportation throughout the duration of the tournament but added that fabulous prizes await winners of the competition.

It could be recalled that the President of the Nigeria Swimming Federation, Dr. Peter Odili has donated a
giant trophy for the Water Polo event. In addition, winners of the Water Polo Men event will take home the sum of thirty thousand naira(N30,000) while silver medal winners will receive twenty-four thousand naira(N24,000).

Bronze winners will also take home sixteen thousand naira(N16,000).
