Winners of the swimming event at the last National Sports Festival, Delta State and current Champions of the Dr. Peter Odili annual swimming Championships, Rivers State will be locked in a healthy rivalry at the fast approaching 4th Dr. Peter Odili Swimming Championships holding from 10 November in Port Harcourt.

Both states boast of the cream of Nigeria’s best swimmers and already it’s a war of words by their coaches and swimmers .

Star swimmer for Delta State Blessing Forcados is first to fire the salvo.

“We did well at the Festival and this will give us the motivation to come out tops in Port Harcourt. We have been training very hard and this is our chance to get back to the top” she said.

Delta state, Coached by one of Nigeria’s top swimming Coaches Monday Aigbe placed fifth at the end of the last Championships but a strong showing, leading to the first place with 19 gold medals at the 4th National Sports Festival means Rivers State should be looking behind their shoulders.

“By God's grace we are doing our best. There is no threat to our dominance, we will still top” said the
8th All Africa Games medallist who won nine gold medals at the last Championships to emerge the best
swimmer.
