New dawn for boxing in Lagos![]() The Lagos boxing body in the last few months has demonstrated some level of seriousness by staging monthly boxing bouts aimed at discovering new talents for the state. According to secretary of the association Mrs. Grace Asagba, the monthly tourney is gradually bringing back the lost glory of boxing in the state and we are using the monthly bouts to get our boxers prepared for major national and international competition. He told www.nigeriasports.com in an exclusive chat during the inter-club championship penultimate Friday at the sports hall of the Rowe Park sports centre, Yaba, Lagos that the state would strive to surpass its 4 gold 4 silver won at the Abuja 2004 15th National Sports festival in May. Lagos State Sports Council chairman, Agboola Pinheiro applauded the association for blazing the trail with the monthly boxing fiesta and charged other sporting associations in the state to wake up to the reality on ground. Eleven bouts were decided during the inter-club championship featuring boxers from over ten clubs and twenty pugilists taking to the square rope. State head coach, Adefemi Babafemi promised that the association would stage another bout in December to keep the boxers in proper shape ahead 2005 and the 16th National Sports festival tagged gateway 2006 sports festival billed for Abeokuta, Ogun State. 1
