Governors cup gets November date

The 4th Rivers State Governor’s Cup Open Swimming Championships, Odili 2004, according to the Nigeria Swimming Federation (NSF), organizers of the annual meet, will take place from November 16 through 21 at the swimming pool, Alfred Diete Spiff Civic Centre in Port Harcourt.

Media Officer of the Nigeria Swimming Federation, Bassey Koma explains that states and clubs are
expected in Port Harcourt from November 16 for documentation while the opening ceremony and
commencement is November 17.The competition will end on November 20 with departure on 21.

Competing states are however advised to register their swimmers with the secretariat of the Federation on or before the arrival date.

Secretary –General of the NSF, Tayo Oreweme also warns that states or clubs that fail to pay the annual affiliation fees of five thousand naira will not be allowed to take part in the championships.

President of Nigeria Swimming Federation, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Odili, in keeping with his promise will dole out financial rewards and certificates to swimmers who emerge victorious at the four days meet.

About thirty states and swimming clubs are expected to feature at the Championships.

It could be recalled that Obia Inyengiyikabo last year was a proud beneficiary of a brand new BMW car and a sum of One Million Naira from Dr. Peter Odili following her impressive performances for the state and country at several international championships.

Obia, popularly called” Fish” won nine gold medals at the 2003 Championships.
