German, Sebastian Fitz, emerged champions of the fourth edition of Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Cup which came to a close at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan on Saturday. Nigeriasports.com can report.

Fitz defeated Roger Anderson of South Africa 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 to win the 15,000 US dollars cash prize and a trophy.

Fitz jolly ride to victory was boosted when his South African opponent sustained injury midway in the final set.

The game was an explosive encounter which saw the sparse crowd cheering both players at the centre court of the LLTC.

Speaking after the event, the German showered praises on Nigerian players for their efforts in the competition.

Meanwhile, Sania Mirza of India won the women singles event of the competition.

Beating Channelle Scheepers of South Africa 4-6,7-6,7-5 in the other keenly contested match.
