Pelican Stars take pole position

Blessing Igbojionu, scored for Pelican Stars
Pelican Stars Football Club of Calabar got off to a fearful start at the Bayelsa zone of the female version of Nigeria’s FA Cup on Sunday night by thrashing the representatives from Anambra state 8-1, nigeriasports.com reports.

Playing without six of their regulars who just returned to the team from South Africa where they took part in the just concluded African Women Championships, Pelican Stars totally outclassed their opponents who were taught a lesson or two on where their football is lacking.

Sherri Saidi got a hatrick while Esoghe Osaogbovo, Blessing Igbojionu, Julia Ekwerike and Ifeanyi Chiejine scored one each.

In the other match of the group scheduled for Sunday, Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt walked over the Abia State representatives.

Delta Queens take no prisoners

League Champions, Delta Queens of Asaba also made a bold statement on their ambitions of wresting the FA Cup this year with a 4-0 bashing of Adamawa Queens in the Kaduna Center.

Maureen Eke, Nkechi Egbe, Semola Akinlose and Victoria Nweze got their names on the score sheet.

Chief Coach of Delta Queens told nigeriasports.com after the match that five of his players with the Falcons are yet to join the squad.

“We expect Felicia Eze and Ijeoma Obi to join up on Monday morning while Vera Okolo, Precious Dede, and Ayi Yusuf were given until Tuesday to join us here in Kaduna.”

Still in the Kaduna center, Solid babes of Nasarawa hacked the Benue State team 3-0.

Makurdi, Abeokuta yet to taste action

There were no games on Sunday at the Makurdi and Abeokuta centers as more than half of the participants were yet to arrive.

In Makurdi, FCT Queens of Abuja will do battle with Remi Babes of Ogun State on Monday while Tin City Queens of Jos and Waheed Queens of Kaduna will lock horns.

In Abeokuta it will be Inneh Queens of Benin and Bayelsa United taking center stage.
