Ghana coach gives it to Nigeria
The chief coach of the black Queens of Ghana, John Eshuen has predicted that Nigeria would win the 2004 edition of the African women championship, South Africa 2004, reports nigeriasports.com Bearing his mind to nigeriasports.com at the team's holiday Inn Milpark hotel, the former black stars captain disclosed that the Falcons are better in every department. " I tip Nigeria for the championship. They have the all round edge in terms of technicalities like technical and tactical play, agility and experience. The Nigerian wingers are very fast and they are aggressive upfront. They can however be slippery at the defence which is just the sour part of the team.
When asked to assess the Camerounian side, the former Ashanti Kotoko coach said the Cameroun attack is also very strong. "Their attack is good and that is where their advantage lie. They are a highly physical side and they use it to the fullest advantage but their defence is bad", he added.
The coach who played alongside Haruna Ilerika in the Africa 11 trip to Brazil for the mini world cup in 1972 and in Mexico 1973 however concluded by blaming injuries to key players for the loss to Cameroun in the semi-final. "It was just unfourtunate we lost to them earlier. We lost some mid-fielders to injuries in the game and we didn't take our chances in the match while they took theirs. We were better off on that day", he affirmed.
Reports Opatola Adewole, Jo'burg South Africa.
