Nigeria in AWC semi-finals

The Nigerian female team has qualified for the semi-finals of the ongoing African women championship after crushing Mali 3-0 in the last match of the preliminaries, reports nigeriasports.com.

The match which took place in Pretoria at the Caledonian stadium witnessed a great Nigerian turn-out and a early goal by Cynthia Uwak in the 7th minute indicated more of what to come later in the encounter.

Perpetua Nkwocha got the second goal in the 34th minute and she was right on target again in the 48th minute to make it four goals so far in the championship.

Godwin Izilein, the Falcons coach said he was delighted by the girls performance. I am happy we played a better game today and we expect to improve as the championship progresses.

The Nigerian side will face Ethiopia in the second semi-final while Ghana square up against Cameroun, 3-1 winners over Algeria in the first semi-final.

Report by Opatola Adewole, Jo'burg South Africa.
