Navy sails to Badagry aboard MT. Breweries

SAILORS and fun lovers are in for a swell time this weekend as the 1st Nigerian Breweries-Navy Sailing Club Boat Race comes up. Sponsored by Nigerian Breweries, in association with the Nigerian Navy Sailing Club, (Navy Town) Lagos, the boat race is expected to sail from the club’s base next Saturday morning and terminate at the Whispering Palms Resort in Iworo, near Badagry. There would be stop overs at Hamelson Seaside Resort and Agaja, before the final destination at Whispering Palms. A total of 15 boats would be taking part in the competition, while four other boats would convey guests and spectators to accompany competitors on the race, which is being bankrolled by the beverage giants for the first time. The boats are expected to leave Navy Town, at 09.00 hours to arrive at the Whispering Palms at 17.00 hours. Participants would include Navy personnel and civilian members of the club. The prize presentation ceremony is expected to hold on arrival at the termination point. Publicist of Nigeria Breweries, Edem Vindah said the race promises to be “a very colourful event, as all the boats would be branded in the beautiful colours of Nigerian Breweries.” He stated that the motto of the club is “Wind or Power We Sail” because the boats used for the competition are without engines, hence would depend on the wind power and skills of the sailors for effectiveness. The annual boat race started since1996.
