Globacom abandons league Champions

The absence of anything associated with Globacom, sponsors of the Nigerian Premier League from the stadium in Port Harcourt in Wednesday’s league deciding tie made the victory celebrations and cultural displays look anything but a league match, nigeriasports.com authoritatively reports.

Bemused fans at the stadium wondered aloud why Globacom did not have any presence at the stadium despite the fact that the league is sponsored by the telecommunications giants.

“What is really going on here,” Dawari Kalio asked when he spoke with nigeriasports.com.

“I thought the league was sponsored by Globacom? How come they are not here? How come the trophy is not in Port Harcourt? I think the whole thing is messed.”

Chairman of Bright Stars Football Academy, Joan Abanda who as at the stadium told nigeriasports.com that Globacom got it wrong as regards crowning the new league Champions.

“The trophy should have been in Port Harcourt, or at least some where between Aba and Port Harcourt since the title could have gone either way. Nothing stops them from flying it over as soon as it was obvious the league would be won by Dolphin”

At the stadium on Wednesday, there were no Globacom banners or pitch panels leaving the atmosphere like a league without sponsors.
