Falcons still on course-Omidiran

Super Falcons
The head of the Nigerian delegation to the ongoing African cup of nations for women, south Africa 2004, Ayo Omidiran has disclosed that the team is still very much confident of winning the championship for a record 4th consecutive time, reports nigeriasports.com.

Speaking with nigeriasports.com shortly after the Falcons 2-2 draw with Cameroun, the chairperson of the female football committee of the NFA disclosed that such outcomes should be expected. "It was a very difficult match and the outcome didn't come as a surprise to us. We were expecting it and we are better off with the draw knowing quite well that we are still in contention for the top spot in the group", she said.

On the psychological impact of the dropped points on the girls since the Nigerian team had the game in their hands, the Osogbo based administrator revealed that the team is used to it. "It is not the first time that the Falcons are dropping points. Two years ago in Warri during the AWC 2002, the Falcons actually lost 0-1 to Ghana and still went on to win the championship. Even in South Africa 2000, we also surrendered the lead to Ghana and ended the match 2-2 apiece but this one has ended in a draw and I maintain that we are satisfied", she stressed.

The proprietress of Omidiran babes would however use the oppourtunity to appeal to the Nigerian resident fans here in south Africa to continue to throw their support behind the Falcons. " The Nigerian fans have been turning out enmasse here and I wish to urge them not to relent in their efforts until our goal of winning the championship for them is achieved", she concluded.
