I am not Mercy Akide- Okolo

Okolo told nigeriasports.com exclusively that Mercy Akide is one of a kind and since she can never be like Akide, there is no need trying to make her feel like what she is not.

“A lot of journalists have asked how it feels being the new Mercy Akide but I do not like that tag. Who told them Mercy Akide has quit the national team? Who told them I can be like Mercy? I pray they will just leave me alone to concentrate on my game.” Okolo fumed.

The pint sized attacker told nigeriasports.com that the only person she can be is Vera Okolo and she will work hard to be the best Vera there can be.

“I can only do my best, especially at the African Women Championships but I must say it will be tough without Mercy and the other foreign based players.”

“I learn a lot from Mercy whenever she is in the team. I will miss her a lot in South Africa.”

No AWC pressures whatsoever

Okolo told nigeriasports.com that this may be her first African Women Championships but not her first time playing for the Falcons so there would be no pressure on her to perform.

“It’s a good feeling for me to play in the African Women Championships and I am really happy to be part of the team. I just pray I will be able to meet the expectations of Nigerians.”

“I am not under any pressure to perform or to score goals and I will just take my time and allow the games to roll by.”
