Gloria Usieta relishes life in Greece

Gloria Usieta
Super Falcons midfielder, Gloria Usieta says life is good at her new club, PAOK Salonica of Greece. The former Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt player said her PAOK deal is a much better one than she got at KAVALA 86 FC her first club in Greece.

“This is a much bigger club than KAVALA and they gave me a much better deal.”

“They also paid cash, unlike KAVALA who still owe me. And from hind sight I think it was better I stayed here than even play for Nigeria at the Olympics.”

Regrets missing Athens 2004 Olympics

Usieta told nigeriasports.com that she sees the deal as a compensation for missing out on the Athens 2004 Olympics.

“I really wanted to play at the Olympic Games and quit the National team after that and I must say I am really disappointed I did not make the cut.”

“If I had played in the Olympics it would have been my last but its too bad I did not.”

“I even did not watch any of the games the Falcons played at the games because there was no live coverage of the games in my area. I heard the team played well though.”

Usieta last played for Rivers Angels FC in 2003 before joining KAVALA 86 FC of Greece where she was moved from her more traditional role in defensive midfielder to a more offensive position.

“I scored eight goals for KAVALA last year, which would surprise a lot of people because all through my time in Nigeria I was made to play either as central defender or full back and in my last season I played in defensive midfield for Rivers Angels.”

“Right now I am not thinking much about the Falcons because I want to concentrate on my club since we just began our pre season training.”

“All I want to do now is enjoy my game to justify what they have spent on me.”
