AWC 2004: Update from Falcons camp

Oge Onyinanya returns to the Falcons
Chief Coach of Nigeria’s Super Falcons, Godwin Izilien on Monday night reduced the number of players in camp from thirty four to twenty with just two weeks to the start of the Africa Women Championships.

Iziliens’s team of twenty are the exact number that will go to South Africa for the Championship though only 18 of that number will be registered for the competition.

In the team are ten of the players who represented Nigeria at the just concluded Athens 2004 Olympic Games, while the others are part of the team that qualified Nigeria for the Championships.

However, there was still no place for star performer, Mercy Akide who was unceremoniously left out of the squad by Izilien who said she needed a rest from international engagements.

Akide however insists that she wants to be part of the team to the AWC.

Falcons second choice keeper at the Olympics, Oge Onyinanya was also a late call up after being initially left out from the team
