Ibeabuchi denied parole, remains in jail

“If the president was to be fighting today, he would have been the heavyweight champion of the world” said Ike Enwereuzor a Nigerian boxing writer/promoter in New York.

Nigeriasports.com can reveal that many fight fans share this same opinion but Ike ‘The President’ Ibeabuchi is languishing in jail and Tuesday he was denied parole by the Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners.

Ibeabuchi (20-0, 15 KOs) will now reportedly probably be incarcerated until at least 2007 when another parole hearing is scheduled.

He was convicted of attempted sexual assault of an outcall dancer in Las Vegas five years ago and is serving a 3-20 year sentence.

Even though many fight fans saw it as a set up the trial went on after spending some time in the psychiatric hospital.

His career has suffered tremendously since his being jailed and efforts made to fight out of jail as did Mike Tyson failed.

If and when Ibeabuchi is released he will be also be facing deportation to his fatherland Nigeria.

At the time of his arrest, IBEABUCHI was ranked No. 2 by the IBF and was one of the world's most promising heavyweights.

He was impressive in wins over contenders David Tua and current IBF champion Chris Byrd, who he knocked out in five rounds.

I can see that the contineous incarceration of IKE IBEABUCHI in the US prison is an act of racism. The judges trying him should be charged for racism coz they've continued to hold him for a long time withouth trial. I wish the Nigerian govt should intervene on his behalf so that justice in the allegation against him will be substantiated. Plz federal govt do something now 4 ur citizen.i just hope someone is listening to me ooooh
