My strategy paid off- Mabo

Falcons Chief Coach, Ismaila Mabo insists he did not know much about the Japanese side before their game last Saturday, but he adopted a strategy based on a little knowledge he had of the opponents which worked for him, nigeriasports.com can reveal.

“My opponents were unknown to me before the game, I must admit, because I did not know a thing about them and did not have the opportunity to watch their game against Sweden on Wednesday.”

“However, before the game I got information that they were short and very fast so I adopted a strategy to man mark them and slow down the game whish worked.”

“The first 45 minutes without a goal was also good for the confidence of my young team. It would have been two if not for the begging chance, Stella Mbachu missed in front of goal.”

Sweden not grudge match

Though he admits he would not tackle the Swedes like it was a grudge match, Mabo told nigeriasports.com that a win against such good opposition will be good.

“I know they are very big physically, but they cannot be as smart as my girls. We will use speed to overcome them.”

Cherishes first win for Nigeria

The Chief Coach told nigeriasports.com that the sweet thing about Saturday’s victory is that he was the last coach to win a match for Nigeria outside Africa and now coming back to the saddle he has done the same thing.

“In the 1999 World cup I won two matches and took the Falcons to the quarter finals of the cup. Now I have started with a win which is Nigeria’s first since 1999.”

“Knowing that the Nigerian Press will not praise me, I will surely praise myself as I look forward to another win, and another.”

“Really I am so happy and the girls did me proud on Saturday.”

Now that Nigeria has gotten a first win in the football event in the Olympics, I hope the confidence of the girls will grow by the leaps so that they can do well on the international level. But at hand is the quarter final of the Olympics. They must keep their heads down and play for the greater glory of Nigeria.
