Anambra on course with stadium project

AWKA, Anam. - THE Anambra State Government has explained its controversial decision to relocate the multi-million-Naira stadium complex citing heavy traffic at the present location and not a “rumoured disagreement with the contractors handling the project,” reports nigeriasports.com Speaking to nigeriasports.com, the State Consultant on sports Ernest Ufele, said there were good grounds for the relocation than mere speculated disagreement. “You see, there are so many good reasons for that decision. In the very first place, we considered that the project was very badly located because both sides or almost three sides of the complex are completely build up. The type of traffic that is always envisaged in a stadium of that magnitude will be very high. So, you can’t do any expansion.” “Again, the other major road that leads into the stadium has been completely water logged. It will take two times the cost of that Stadium to build a motorable road on that place. So, the technical managers who advised the government to move to a new site did a good job. These are some of the considerations,” Ufele told nigeriasports.com in Awka, the state capital. And as I am talking to you now I am pretty quite sure that everything about that new stadium, the contract has been formalized. We are awaiting the announcement and probably the signing of the contract," he adds. By Chigozie Chukwuleta
