Falcons in slim win over Japan

Vera Okolo
A second half strike by dimunitive attacker, Vera Okolo was all Nigeria's female National team needed to secure all three points against Japan and a possible quarter final place in the Women Football Tournament of the Athens 2004 Olympics.

With a first half of even exchanges ending goaless, a good move by Pepetua Nkwocha saw Vera getting at the end of the ball to record the only goal of the match.

With eight countries to qualify from a ten team tournament, this victory might just see the Falcons through to the quarter finals, but they must first see off their game against Sweden next week.

This is a very fine start for Super Falcons. I do hope they keep the tempo up so that they can bring us the Olympic gold just as the Atlanta performance by our U-23 male soccer team. The team should ensure that they do not allow this first victory in Olympics to get into their heads. Keep the flag flying sisters.

HURRAY!!! I said so. This gurls are Fantastic, Spectacular and Superb. That yesterday was the day I won't ever forget in my whole life. i am so proud to be a Nigeria that day. I put everything aside to make sure that I watched that Spectacular match. I now know that there is different between a boy and a man in term of our coaches in Nigeria. Imagine, Ismail Mabo studied the match in the 1st half and instruct the gurls to play a real defensive and a little bit attacking game because those japanese came out strongly and effectively to put just a goal in our net but the Coach just change all the tactics in the early stage of the secong half to get that lone goal which made the difference between us. those ladies will make us proud. Just view that Super Goal scored by Super Okolo of Super Falcons. Thanks.
