Dolphin move closer to league title

Dolphin celebrate a goal
Leaders, Dolphin Football club of Port Harcourt on saturday at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi moved one step closer to winning the Globacom League title as they beat home side, Mighty Jets of Jos 2-1 in a lackluster game, nigeriasports.com reports.

The game was barely three minutes old when the Mighty Jets captain, knocked the ball behind his own keeper while trying to stop a pull out from Ochuko Ojobo.

The game continued, a drab affair as Dolphin did not look one bit like leaders of the league.

Eight minutes into the second half, Nura Nakargo tucked the ball behind Sunday Rotimi who reacted very late to a lazy ball played from outside the eighteen yard box.

With just three minutes to go, Dolphin won a free kick at the edge of the Jets box and Kennedy Chinwo blasted it in for the winner.

Fatigue to blame

Dolphin Technical Adviser, Musa Abdulahi blamed fatigue for the poor showing of his boys in the game.

"The most important thing is the three points and we have got it so from now we can look ahead to the next game."

"But one thing I must say is that fatigue did my boys in. We will look into it and make sure they have enough rest before Wednesday's game against Enyimba."

Dolphin, with this victory have extended their lead at the top to six points as they now have 55 points from 29 matches.

Second placed Iwuanyanwu Nationale came from two goals down in the first half to draw level against Kwara United in Kaduna. Nationale are on 49 points from 29 matches.

Shooting Stars were 1-0 winners against Gabros in Ibadan while the game in Kano ended 1-0 in favour of Kano Pillars against Lobi Stars.
