Obodo in confident mood

Christian Obodo
As pre season training continues in Italy ahead of the Serie 'A'. Nigerian players in the Italian league have been gearing themselves up for kick off. Christian Obodo recently moved to Fiorentina from relegated Perrugia. Since joining the team to remain in the top flight Obodo has been living up to expectations.Nigeriasports.com's Ralph George was on line to Fiorentina, after exchanging pleasantries, the Enugu born Obodo answers our questions:

Nigeriasports.com: How is the pre season going?

OBODO: It's been okay, we are just coming from a match, we played a Serie 'C' club and won 5-0.

Nigeriasports.com: How would you rate your performance in the match?

OBODO: It was okay, I scored the second goal, it was nice.

Nigeriasports.com: Very interesting Christian, just the other day you also scored in your team's 4-0 win, where did you discover this latest scoring magic?

OBODO (laughs): I give thanks to God, it's been there it's just that at Perugia i had to play so deep to hold the midfield and sometimes became a defensive
midfielder, here i get enough cover up and so it gives me space to go for goals.

Nigeriasports.com: How are you looking forward to the kick off of the serie 'A'?

OBODO: Yeah we are really prepared, we have lots of good players here and we are all really rearing to go. Our coach is still looking out for few more signings. All we need do is put our acts together and remain focused, we have to also work as a team. I look forward to a rewarding season.

Nigeriasports.com: How is the team, Fiorentina?

OBODO: There is a very big difference between fiorentina and my former club Perrugia,Fiorentina has a lot better management than Perrugia and it's a bigger club. I like it here in Fiorentina.

Nigeriasports.com: There is a great expectation at home from you guys as we play Zimbabwe on September 5, how are you looking forward to the game?

OBODO: Well, we have to work as a team to be able to beat Zimbabwe in the home, it won't be esay but I believe with the capable players we have and God being on our side we must beat Zimbabwe, it's very important.

Nigeriasports.com: That takes us to last weekend, captain Jay Jay sent a message to the NFA that he might not be available for the match due to the premiership, what do you think of this and Jay Jay's leadership?

OBODO: If he said that then it's unfortunate, Okocha is a wonderful player and we always need him around, he is very important in the team and being the captain again he is supposed to be around always but you never know, if he gave that excuse it's left for the NFA to look in to it and no what to do, but Jay Jay is very important in the team, if you ask me, i will want him to come for the game, his presence will change a lot of things.

Nigeriasports.com: What's your promise to Nigerians?

OBODO:I promise to give my best in the Zimbabwe match and hope to do better than last season in my new club, tell Nigerians to pray for us.

Nigeriasports.com: What's your take on this technical adviser issue, three names have been sent to the minster from where one will be selected?

OBODO:If you ask me, anything they do, Christian Chukwu should remain as the head coach whether the whiteman comes or not but you guys out there know better, I'm just a player and what ever I say doesn't matter.

Nigeriasports.com: Thank you very much for talking to us?

OBODO: Thank you Ralph, any time.
